Code Enforcement

In the North American vehicle lift marketplace, certification of vehicle lifts is voluntary unless an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) makes the requirement compulsory. In general terms, this means that vehicle lift manufacturers are not required to certify that their lift models meet industry safety and performance standards. However, there is a growing trend where AHJs including the International Building Code, other regulations, and health and safety officers do mandate that any lifts installed must meet these standards. Therefore, responsibility for installing lifts that comply with ANSI/ALI ALCTV (current edition) lies with the lift purchaser.

Vehicle lifts are subject to a number of regulations that vary depending on where they are installed. This map provides links to regulatory, building code and other lift-related requirements developed by local jurisdictions, state or provincial agencies or other AHJs. Click a state or province to display links to current codes or requirements. To ensure you have the most up-to-date information, please contact the jurisdiction directly. This map is a work in progress.
