Frequently Asked Questions About Automotive Lifts

ALI Answers Your Questions About Lift Certification, Inspection and Standards

Whether you’re a car lift owner, bid specifier, lift inspector or code enforcement official, sometimes it can be hard to separate the facts about automotive lift certification, lift inspection and ANSI standards from all the noise in the marketplace. We’re here to help.

ALI’s mission is to promote the safe design, construction, installation, inspection and use of automotive lift products. We are focused on continuously advancing vehicle lift safety and advocating proper use to all industry stakeholders. We don’t make or sell car lifts or parts for them. We develop and sponsor automotive lift safety standards and offer North America’s only third-party certification programs for vehicle lifts and lift inspectors.

(By the way, when we say, “car lift” or “automotive lift,” we’re talking about lifts that are used to raise any vehicle, including cars, trucks, vans, buses, etc. So, whether you say, “auto lift” or “truck lift” or “hoist,” the same standards apply. In fact — that’s covered by one of these FAQs!)

Our FAQ lists include some of the questions we’ve been asked most frequently. They cover a range of topics including claims you may have heard from a salesperson, certification requirements for lift accessories, and how to find a qualified lift inspector to inspect virtually any type of vehicle lift. If you still have questions after reading the FAQs, please feel free to contact us.
